This is the first mock up I created for my DPS for the article entitled "The Online Film Revolution". In my opinion there are many positive of this DPS yet there are many negatives. It is important that I identify these positives and negatives to ensure that my work progresses.
Positives
- Font- The title font is custom made by me however it is based on a sans serif font named myriad pro. This font is used in many design products such as all apple products use this typeface due to its simplicity yet elegant design. I used it throughout the DPS as it is extremely simple and clear to read. For the title I tried to achieve a grungy look as the revolution is usually associated with very dirty and grungy looking graphics.
-Colour- The colour used throughout is black and white and compliment the imagery rather well. The black and white colour scheme gives the DPS an overall classic and old feel. the colour also has connotations that include youtube sucking the life and colour out of the online film and video industry.
Negatives
-Layout- The layout is extremely inefficient due to the size of the image, the length of the article and the article placement. due to the shape of the focal point (the model and poster) in the image it was extremely difficult to work my article around it. The article didn't actually fit on the pages due to the oversized image. I originally wanted to use the poster as a breakout box, however it was way to big for a breakout box.
-Imagery- As mentioned before the image is a little oversized and takes up a full page. This would not be a problem if the image had any meaning what so ever but as it stands it is just someone holding a piece of paper. If I were to dedicate an image to one page it would have to have a greater meaning than that of the current image.
-graphics- The graphics are too clean for this article as revolutionary imagery and illustrations are a lot more dirty, grungy and eroded.
