Photo shoot planning document

Date and time of photo shoot:

Material to be shot:

The material that will be shot is for multiple DPS’s and the front cover of my magazine.

YouTube, a ticking time bomb DPS 1

For my first DPS (YouTube a ticking time bomb), I will be taking images of a (fake) bomb.  The second image I would to take is of my model ducking for cover from the explosion. The next image I would like to take will involve a close up of the alarm clock about to tick on to 12. I would like to take these images into Photoshop to give them the appropriate corrections as well as a few overlays. These will be the YouTube logo, a lit match and possible some grunge textures.

The online film revolution DPS 2

For my second DPS (The online film revolution) I will be taking images based on the revolution. For example an image of a film makers hand up in the air, a film maker holding a camera up in the air and an image of a router. I would like to take these images into Photoshop to give all my images a grungy look.

D.I.Y Designs DPS 3

For my final DPS I would like to take some very simple images that I can turn into diagrams in Photoshop. There are a few images I would like to take. My first image I would like to take is of a DSLR camera. The second image I would like to take is of all of the equipment that will be needed for the project. I would then like to take an image of each step of building the slider. After taking all the images I will print them all of and using a light box I will make line drawing of each image. I will then transfer it into Photoshop where I can add colour and correct any mistakes.

Front cover
As my feature article is “YouTube a ticking time bomb”, my front cover imagery for the front cover will be very similar to that of the article. The image will be a few sticks of dynamite lit. The appropriate corrections will be made in Photoshop such as lighting and colour adjustment.

What personnel do you need?

Lighting assistant:
Models:

What props will you need?

DPS 1

The props I will need is a fake bomb which I will create using multiple empty kitchen rolls which I will paint red to make it look like dynamite. I will then attach an alarm clock and electrical wire to make it look more realistic.

DPS 2

The props I will need are a DSLR camera and a modem router.

DPS 3

The props I will need for this DPS will be a DSLR camera, the equipment needed to build the slider, the materials needed, and the finished fully functional slider.

Describe in detail your make-up & costume needs. (Include reference material to illustrate your needs)

For all of my DPS’s I do not really need any makeup however there are a few costumes that I need.

DPS 1

Desert camouflage vest or something military related when my model is taking cover from the bomb.

DPS 2

I need my model to look like a stereotypical film maker.

DPS 3

Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
(include reference material to illustrate your needs)

DPS 1

The lighting for this photo shoot will be butterfly lighting and narrow lighting.

DPS 2

The lighting for this photo shoot I will be using the -------- for off location photo shoot

DPS 3

The lighting for this photo shoot I will be using the -------- for off location photo shoot I will also be using a DIY soft box which is quite relevant to the article.

Backdrop:

The backdrop will be white for all of my shoots on location as I would like the focus of images to be either on the props or the model. However DPS 2 will be taken off location and the backdrop will most likely be heavily eroded or vandalised walls or some kind of grungy backdrop. DPS 3 will be taken within a workshop.

Blog entry 4

Blog Entry 4

In this week I have managed to complete all of the planning for my DIY designs as I was behind on the production of this article and DPS in the previous weeks. However this has meant most of the other tasks that I set my self this week have come to a standstill.

For the most part of this week I have been focusing on planning, designing and finalising my article, my DPS and my dolly slider for the article DIY designs. I have completed the article plan I have finished designing the dolly slider, I have written my article. All that needs to be done is to incorporate all of my elements into my pre-prepared layout. I may encounter some problems when I import the article and images such as they don't fit together like I expected, it may turn out that my layout is extremely hard to follow and may require some alterations.

For the rest of this week I have been focusing creating elements such as mastheads kickers and textures for my DPS's. Here are some examples:

Nuke overlay using primary and secondary source imagery and photoshop filters such as clouds and sky to create the smoke effects and explosion effects. This image will most likely be a overlay onto my second page. Another filter that I plan to add to this is the oil paint tool which will make the smoke a lot smoother.

Tuesday

I continued to design my DPS layouts. this lesson consisted of me working on my DPS design for youtube a ticking time bomb. all components and features for this DPS were completed in photoshop in this lesson and the previous lesson. I then started to assemble the components into indesign where I attempted to achieve the most efficient layout.

Wednesday

I continued to work on the DPS design of my article youtube a ticking time bomb. The production this DPS is going well however I am constantly changing my mind about the design of the page and the components within the DPS. The final DPS design will not resemble the flat planned version as I believe I can improve the aesthetics of the DPS originally flat planned. this however has slowed the production of the overall magazine. This will mean I will have to assign myself more homework tasks to account for the time that has been lost. I also could not take my photos as both my models did not turn up so I started looking for a more reliable model

Thursday

I was not in this lesson due to a university interview. this means I am even further behind in the production of my magazine. As a result I will to assign myself some tasks to do outside of lessons.

Friday

I will be finishing and uploading my remaining documents to my blog such as photo shoot plans, my DIY designs article plan and scanning in flat plans. I will also be booking at lighting techniques for my rescheduled photo shoot.

This week I did many things contributing to the production of my project. I started this week by writing up my call sheets so that my models know what they are doing on the day of the photoshoot. This included the models name, the other staff that will be attending the photoshoot, what the model needs to wear, what they should bring and what they should be prepared for. Although I have completed the call sheets they still need to be uploaded to my blog which I will do saturday 1st feburary.

The next lesson I created a questionnaire and started the graphics in my DPS's. I started the lesson of by creating a questionnaire that I can send to you tubers through skype so that I can gain some primary research. The questionnaire is short as I know most of the people that I send them to will not fill out a long questionnaire and it consisted of 5 questions.

The next lesson I was unable to attend due to a university interview. However I started to create some more components such as photoshop banners and ribbons to go on my blog.

the final lesson of the week I continued with the production of my project.

Blog entry 1

blog entry 1

This week I scheduled that I would achieved many tasks in my lessons and outside of lessons.

In my first lesson I scheduled that I would receive feedback on my blue folder so I could improve some of my work. I did manage to receive some good feedback in this lesson and started on improving work such as my treatment which needed some more detail in the last few sections. The last few sections included, image control, language control, colour control and layout control objectives. I believe I can produce a treatment to much better standard due to the amount of research I have taken out on this project as a whole. I have researched fonts, colour schemes, many articles related to my genre of my magazine and many images within magazines.

The second lesson I booked my photo shoot for the 5th of February. Before I booked the photo shoot I made sure that my model was available at this time as well as my back up model. my original model is available this time and date yet my back up model is not. This means I may have to find another back-up model to ensure that my photo shoot is complete on time and I can start designing my pages. I also took out some research on fonts. The research I gathered gave me an insight to the problems I may come across when I start designing my pages. For example I may feel when I'm designing my pages that the font does not match the style of article or something as simple as the license on the font may be for personal use as an oppose to commercial use. I found a very useful site to help with finding free fonts that can be used commercially called fontsquirrel.com.

The third lesson I researched colour's for my magazine. The research I obtained within the session was very helpful to my project as I designed my own possible colour schemes for each article. The main process I had for designing colour schemes were to gather images related to my articles. I then observed the colours within the images and took colour samples using the eye-drop tool within photoshop. and then put them into various webapps such as mudcu and colourhunter. I learned that many colours will hold many connotations within my articles. For example for my article YouTube: A ticking time bomb I found that many of the colours I sampled were very saturated and almost radioactive which will be very relevant to the article itself. I learned that I need to use very simple, clean and pale colours for D.I.Y designs to make the tutorial very clear and to almost tell the reader its quite simple to build. I think I could have done a lot more research within this lesson as I did not manage complete my research for all the articles and the front cover. I will have to finish this research in my own time to ensure my schedule is not jeopardised.
